A professional journalist and broadcaster, is the UK correspondent of the Italian-wiss Broadcasting Corporation.

As a foreign commentator from London for the RAI News Programmes, he has voiced his own talks on British political, economic and cultural events on a daily basis, and also presented “Quadrante Internazionale”, the RAI Radio 3 magazine of current affairs, over more than ten years.

He has been head of the Italian Unit of the BBC World Service for twelve years, and prior to that worked with it as diplomatic correspondent, producer of special projects, host of talk shows and editor of “Londra Ultima Ora”, its flag news and current affairs programme in Italian.

He has interviewed the leading personalities of the British political spectrum and cultural sector, contributed to many investigative TV programmes by Enzo Biagi, including “Il Caso”, and narrated several programmes broadcast by the BBC TV Educational.

Since he was a boy he was fascinated by two worlds, that of radio journalism and that of theater. In the evening at dinnertime with his family, when it was common in those years to listened to radio more and TV, hi heard the voices that came from afar, croaking voices, interrupted by long pauses due to radio devices that were then prehistoric. He heard the voices of the RAI correspondents from the various capitals of the world.

“Here from New York Ruggero Orlando speaks to you.” At that time there were still no cheap flights or mass tourism, those correspondents were pioneers for him, explorers of distant worlds. Then there was the charm and the attraction of the theater, which he had since he was a child. Rai pushed him towards that world.

Radio Rai 3 played comedies and tragedies by great authors such as Shakespeare, Goldoni, Pirandello. Rai also had several permanent drama companies. It is there that he learned about great actors such as Gassman, Giorgio Albertazzi, Salvo Randone and many others. Since his youth his path was marked, journalism or theater.
